The Brilliant Club, Graduation at King’s College London & Student Reflections

The Brilliant Club

Over the past term, a group of our dedicated students took part in The Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme, working alongside a PhD mentor to dive into the professional world of popular genre fiction.

Through six intensive face-to-face sessions, students explored the mechanics of storytelling through role-play, film genre analysis, and high-level academic discussions. The challenge culminated in students crafting their own professional pitches for original books or films, a task that required them to submit a rigorous 2,000-word final assignment.

We are incredibly proud of the results, which were released this January:

  • One student achieved a prestigious 1st Class grade.
  • The majority of the cohort attained a 2:1, reflecting the high calibre of work produced.

Graduation at King’s College London

On Thursday 26th February, our scholars travelled to London to celebrate their achievements at King’s College London. The day was an eye-opening experience that truly brought the prospects of higher education to life. Highlights included:

  • Networking: Meeting peers from other schools across the country.
  • Campus Exploration: A guided tour of the historic Guy’s Campus.
  • Inspiration: Engaging Q&A sessions with current King’s students about university life and the doors it can open.

Student Reflections

While many initially found the prospect of a 2,000-word essay intimidating, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.Students noted significant growth in critical thinking, time management, resilience, and writing academic literacy.  One student enjoyed the academic challenge so much they even asked if they could sign up again for next year!

“It was a great experience that really pushed me out of my comfort zone and showed me what I’m capable of.” — Scholars Programme Participant
