Why this course?

Psychology is primarily a science subject that also demands many of the skills essential in humanities. It can therefore be regarded as a bridge between the two disciplines.  If you are interested in exploring human behaviour through a range of explanations  or perhaps gaining a greater level of insight with regards to yourself and those around you then Psychology may well be for you.

Course Content

Students will engage in the main psychology approaches to understanding behaviour, alongside the principles of social research.

Students will engage in concept-based learning, practical class activities, and research methodologies to explore psychology in four key contexts:

● Health and Well-being: Conduct interviews or focus groups.
● Human Development: Observe naturalistic or controlled behavior.
● Human Relationships: Create surveys or questionnaires.
● Learning and Cognition: Design and execute true or quasi-experiments.

Assessment

Paper 1:
Integration of the concepts, content and contexts
35 marks |1.5 hours

Paper 2:
Applying concepts and content to research contexts
35 marks | 1.5 hours

Paper 3:
Data analysis and interpretation of research data
30 marks | 1.75 hours

Internal Assessment
20 hours
Research proposal (24 marks)

Degree Subjects

Psychology can be studied as a course within its own right. It is recommended that students seek a British Psychological Society accredited course in which they will gain an MSC if they are aiming to progress further in the field of Psychology specifically.
