Global politics engages with up to date current affairs and explores the impact political decision making has on the way we live. Global politics encourages engagement with a wide range of media and teaches you how to read behind the news headlines.

Course Content

  • Unit 1:Understanding power and global politics
    Study the concepts of Power, Sovereignty, Legitimacy and Interdependence and their importance.
  • Unit 2: Thematic Studies
    Explore key Global topics, including Rights and Justice, Development and Sustainability, Peace and Conflict. Explore how political actors attempt to deal with these issues and the challenges they face.
  • Unit 3: Global Political Challenges
    Research contestable global issues, including: Borders, Identity. Environment, Poverty, Equality, Security, Health, Technology.
  • Unit 4: Engagement Project
    Choose, research and report on a Global political issue you are passionate about, suggesting ways to tacklethe challenge in the community.

Paper 1
Source based paper exploring key topics in Global Politics and key messages from the sources
20% of grade

Paper 2
Extended response questions, exploring key topics from the Global Politics course
30% of grade

Paper 3
Stimulus based paper where you respond to key questions based on case studies you have chosen during your studies
30% of grade

Internal Assessment: Engagement Project
Research, take part in, and reflect on, a political issue of interest to you and produce a written report on your work
20% of grade
