Why this course?

This course is ideal for students with a keen interest in textiles and design. It offers a comprehensive exploration of textile techniques, materials, and processes. Students will develop skills in creating textile art and design pieces, focusing on creativity, innovation, and personal expression. The course encourages experimentation with various materials and techniques while fostering an understanding of the historical and cultural contexts of textile design.

Course Content

  • Unit 1: Visual Recording and Communication (Learners investigate, experiment, and explore a range of visual recording materials and methods to express and communicate ideas. 
  • Unit 2: Critical and Contextual Studies in Art and Design (Learners develop skills in contextual research and visual analysis to critically analyse the work of others and improve own practice.)
  • Unit 3: The Creative Process (Learners explore and experiment with the stages of the creative process to develop ideas and produce outcomes.)
  • Unit 4: Textiles Materials, Techniques and Processes. (Learners are introduced to materials, techniques and processes used in Textiles Design.)

Assessment

Assessment is continuous throughout the course with a combination of practical projects, written assignments, and presentations.

Each unit is assessed internally with external moderation. Unit 14 and Unit 1 are completed in the first year of study. Unit 14 is internally assessed, and Unit 1 is
externally assessed. 

Unit 2 and Unit 3 are completed in the second year of study. Unit 3 is internally assessed, and Unit 2 is externally assessed.

Student Profile

Ideal for students who are creative, innovative, and have a passion for textiles. They should be willing to experiment with new ideas and materials. Successful students will be self-motivated, able to work independently, and interested in pursuing further education or careers in art and design.
