Home Learning

Ks3
  • KS3 students in English are set Sparx Reader lessons weekly. 
  • Students are required to achieve 100% completion which is 300 SRP points. 
  • This equates to circa 30 minutes per reading session. 
  • Teachers will set lessons on Sparx Reader and also assignments on Google Classroom to assist students with keeping to deadlines. 
  • Students are rewarded and sanctioned for completion and non-completion respectively.
KS4

At KS4, students are expected to complete one hour of home learning each week. 30 minutes are centrally planned revision tasks. An additional 30 minutes is set based on in class work. All home learning is posted on google classroom.

KS5 (IB English/literature)

Students are expected to complete around 4/5 hours a week of home learning split between both class teachers.

This consists of reading, flipped learning, revision, essay preparation, essay writing. All work is posted on google classroom. 

ks3 & Ks4

At KS3, Home learning is set via the Sparx platform. Each piece of homework is designed to last approximately 60 minutes. It is set on Monday at 8am and due at 7pm the following Sunday.

Students are expected to complete a minimum of  90% of the home learning, or have done everything that they can (such as watching all Sparx videos) to try to achieve 100%.

Ks5

A Level independent learning tasks are approximately 4 hours per week, and either consist of consolidation exercises on previously taught content or flipped learning with videos and review exercises to learn before a topic.

Ks5 (Core Maths)

Core maths independent learning tasks are approximately 1 hour a fortnight and consist of consolidation exercises or research tasks for topics coming up.

Ks5 (ECONOMICS)

UpLearn revision tasks set once weekly to consolidate prior learning. This includes exam level questions. Interim use of textbook questions for HW until UpLearn is sorted.

ks3 & KS4

At KS3, Home learning is set via the Sparx platform. Each piece of homework is designed to last approximately 40 minutes. It is set on Thursday at 8am and due at 8am the following Thursday.

Students are expected to complete a minimum of 100% of the home learning, or have done everything that they can (such as watching all Sparx videos) to try to achieve 100%.

ks5 (chEMISTRY)

Students receive three home learning tasks each week. These include a set of exam-style questions based on the current topic to help consolidate their understanding.

One task involves a pre-reading activity on an upcoming topic, for which students are expected to make detailed notes from the assigned readings.

The third task relates to the practical endorsement component of the course and may involve planning and designing an experiment, analysing data, or writing a lab report based on a recent practical activity.

ks5 (Biology)

The learners are expected to complete exam style practice questions from both the subject teachers per week which should be of minimum 60 minutes each. Along with this opportunity for the learners to carry out independent research and present their work once a fortnight, special emphasis on essay writing ( 25 marks) one per subject teacher per week.

Pre-reading tasks, research tasks and homework sheets need to be completed as and when set by the teacher for the following lesson.

ks5 (Medical science)

External Units- students are given exam style questions including case studies weekly from both teachers to complete. Students are also given pre-reading and independent research tasks to complete. 

Internal Units-students are assigned research and write-up tasks based on Pearson’s Assignment Brief as part of coursework.

KS3

3 to 4 Home Learning tasks per rotation based on Keyword Definitions using KOs and Moodboards to use in class for practical experimentation and Design tasks.

KS5

ks5

Weekly research tasks to/ review questions/ exam questions using the textbook consolidation exercises and other resources.

Students are given a pre-populated home-learning booklet, focusing on source work and exam skills. Students complete two 4 markers each week. They receive feedback on improvements, which is then worked on for the next week.

KS3

At KS3, units of work are mapped to idea.org.uk badges. This enables students to complete interactive tasks linked to their in-class learning and also work towards achieving their Bronze award.

Students are set badges to complete after each of the two lessons a fortnight. Each badge should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete.

ks4 (ICT)

At KS4, students utilise www.knowitallninja.com to complete tasks related to Component 3 in preparation for their exam.

The expectation is for students to complete between 30 minutes to 1 hour of work on the platform each week.

KS3

Homework tasks  to be set  every two weeks. Reflection and knowledge retrieval tasks.

EPQ

The EPQ is built entirely on independent study, requiring a minimum of 3 hours of home learning per week. Home learning is structured around these core project management tasks: 

  1. Production Log: Weekly completion to document planning, reflection, and meetings. 
  2. Independent Research: Dedicated time for wide research, critical source evaluation, and compiling bibliographies. 
  3. Project Development: Sustained drafting, writing, and refinement of the 5,000-word report or artifact/product development to meet internal deadlines.
REFLECTIVE PROJECT

Learning journal completion after each lesson (to begin next module). Research tasks and pre reading/watching of documentary to ready themselves for the next lesson/s.

KS3

5 frayer model templates set per fortnight, to be completed using KOs and internet research.

Skills assessments after each practical lesson – 1 week deadline

ks4 (FOOD PREPARATION AND NUTRITION)

Y10

  • Weekly open book MCQ google form of past paper questions – expectation to get at least 50%
  • Evaluation google form to be completed after each practical lesson – 1 week deadline

Y11

  • Weekly revision task – graphic organiser templates provided but option to complete revision in a different format is given.
ks3

Students will be given one task to complete each week (20-30 minute task). 

A combination of digital platforms and quizzes will be used. Pupils will have this all clearly set on google classroom with clear instructions and deadline set. 

Home learning will extend learning from class, either through reviewing key ideas from lessons or providing opportunities to research beyond the curriculum. This will be a mix of building existing knowledge and researching to build new ideas and example banks.

Ks4

Students will be set a mix of classroom 42 and exam questions. This will be in addition to any revision tasks set. 

Pupils will have this all clearly set on google classroom with clear instructions and deadline set.

ks5

Students are expected to complete approximately 5 hours of homework per week.

Flipped Learning will form a key component of Home Learning, with content reviewed in lessons.

Homework will also include wider reading, revision and exam questions as appropriate.

KS4

Work is centered around the component and task being delivered in lesson time. To include independent research, planning and write up of tasks. All outlined on Google Classroom.

KS5

Work is centered around the unit being delivered in lesson time. For coursework unit – independent research, planning and write up of tasks.

For the external exam unit – independent research, revision, completion of exam questions.  All outlined on Google Classroom.

ks3

Students will be given around 30 minutes of home learning each week.

Work is set centrally for all students on a Monday and due the next Monday morning.

A combination of SAM Learning and other digital platforms will be used  for setting home learning, with other resources used as appropriate for the tasks set.

Home learning will extend learning from class, either through reviewing key ideas from lessons or providing opportunities to research beyond the curriculum.

Students are expected to have achieved at least 80% on their homework, or to show that they have tried their best to achieve this.

KS4

Students are expected to complete between 30 minutes and 1 hour of homework each week.

A 30 minute revision task will be set to complete every week, which will be set on a Monday and due the next Monday. An additional 30 minutes of home learning will be set depending on the requirements of the course for that week.

Classroom 42 and revision from knowledge organisers will form a key part of the Homework set.

KS5

Students are expected to complete approximately 5 hours of homework per week, split across both of their class teachers.

Flipped Learning will form a key component of Home Learning, with content reviewed in lessons. Homework will also include wider reading, revision and exam questions as appropriate.

Home learning for both KS3 and KS4 is set weekly on Monday 8am and must be completed by Saturday 8pm.

In both key stages, digital platforms are used to consolidate vocabulary or as flipped learning. They also serve as extra practice for exam prep

KS3

Students must complete 30 minutes of work set on Languagenut or they can all tasks set at an 80% for each task.

If students don’t have a Chromebook, teachers will try to provide hard copies.

ks4

KS4 is 30 minutes LN  – vocabulary learning or exam skill practice.

At Y11, students are given an extra 30 minutes of work, mainly writing tasks, translations and extra listening practice. They can also prepare answers to the questions in the speaking paper.

1 hour home learning weekly. This is made up Textivate/Languagenut practice +  a writing/translation/ grammar task – 30 minutes of each set.

ks4 (Latin)

In Year 10 and 11 students complete regular revision home learning using a combination of the Cambridge Latin Course website, our Grammar Knowledge Organiser and the shared WJEC Latin vocabulary list. All students have copies of this in their Google Classroom and know how to utilise these resources.

KS5 (Language & Cultures Studies)

1 hour minimum of homework across the week (elaborating and working on the personal portrait and project) and 1 hour of independent learning (MOOCs).

Revision tasks / research tasks and exam questions. Content must be covered first to enable exam questions to be set.

KS3

Homework tasks to be set every two weeks. Reflection and knowledge retrieval tasks.

ks5

Students are expected to complete 5 hours a week. The activities include wider reading, “Tutor2U” revision sessions, key words revision, essay practice, and flip learning for revision tasks

ks3

Students are given a home-learning task bi-weekly, submitted via Google Classroom. This is either reviewing key content that has been learnt within class, or additional reading and research tasks to broaden students’ understanding of RE beyond the curriculum.

Ks4

Students are given a pre-populated home-learning booklet, focusing on exam skills for Paper 1. Students complete a 6 and 12 marker each week. They receive feedback on improvements, which is then worked on for the next week.

Ks4

Set on the PE classroom/Google classroom depending on task. Coursework based learning is set as homework overall until hand in deadline (component one in year 10).

No homework set through component 2 as it is a practical dominated unit.

Unit 3 (year 11) set on the PE classroom

KS5

Unit 5 set as coursework as the home learning tasks. Unit 3 is the same. Unit 1 revision tasks are set, these are uploaded into the slides and on GC.

ks5

Students are expected to complete approximately 5 hours of homework per week, split across both of their class teachers.

Flipped Learning will form a key component of Home Learning, with content reviewed in lessons. 

When coursework units begin, this will form a large part of home learning.
